Yellowstone- day 1

I wish we would have stopped and taken a family picture in front of the Yellowstone Park sign as you enter the park. It is just one of the tourist things every family ought to do. So after leaving West Yellowstone we drove around the park looking for animals. We stopped for a picnic somewhere between Norris and Mammoth.

Mammoth was a cool town. We didn't get out because all the kids were asleep and we were enjoying the silence. In the middle of the town there were elk just laying in the shade.
There must have been at least 7 elk just chill'n in the town square. It was a fun site to see. I almost wish the kids would have been awake to see it.

Thursday night we stayed in Canyon Village. We had a cabin style room. It was way too much like camping, it was way dusty and buggy. I have no desire to stay in that town again. It was a fun town to walk around and see stuff but the lodging could use some improvement. I think next time we will try to stay in Mammoth.

We rewarded the kids with ice cream b/c they had a long day in the car. I think Alyssa wore more than she ate.

Sadie was very easy going while at the park. She just enjoyed all we did.

Everyone enjoyed their dinner at the Canyon Village Cafeteria. Gavan really enjoyed his turkey dinner. He kept saying how good it was and that he wanted to have the same thing the next night. He is one funny kid when he really likes something, it is all or nothing.
I don't know what this machine is really called but you put in .51c and get a smashed penny with a Yellowstone image stamped on it. Jack thought this was way cool. Gavan did it too but he thought is was a waste of money because now the penny was no good. Funny kid, didn't understand it just a fun souvenir.
